Making dough… feeding people

A little bit of drizzle and cold could not keep people away from giving their 67 minutes for Mandela Day.

Between the Provincial Treasury, Department of Economic Development and Tourism, and Transport and Public Works, more than 80 public servants joined Minister Maynier, Jenny Morris and other volunteers to make soup and bake bread for the needy.

Celebrity chef, Jenny Morris, started this Mandela Day initiative four years ago and it keeps on growing every year. Through this initiative, government as well as corporates such as Spar, Deloitte and Sasko joined forces to peel and cut vegetables to make soup and bake bread for the needy.

The atmosphere at the event was electric, Magic828 provided great music which spurred the volunteers to peel and chop all the vegetables donated. Vegetables that was not used for the soup was donated to NGO’s to prepare meals for the days after Mandela Day. Nothing was wasted on the day, not even the peels was discarded. It was collected and donated to farmers to feed their animals.

Thank you to all the PT staff that joined this initiative and donated vegetables for this good cause.
