Nick van Niekerk started his career as a public servant in 1976as an administration clerk and worked his way up to deputy director level. He is a true testimony of what can be achieved through hard work and dedication.
In 1995 Nick was tasked to assemble a team with the purpose of evaluating tenders for the appointment of a commercial bank as the Province’s official banker. Nick was instrumental in compiling the submission that led to the appointment of FNB. He also compiled the annual financial statements of the Western Cape provincial administration until the spilt into fourteen departments.
He was a key member on the National Treasury team that was responsible for the development and enhancement of the AFS reporting framework that was introduced in terms of the PFMA. Nick is also recognized and well respected for his skills, knowledge and the positive influence he has on his peers.
“We are thankful for Nick’s contribution in shaping PT. It is with great sadness that we bid Nick farewell as very few of us can say that we have done it all, except Nick” said Mr. Reddy.
Pearls of wisdom from Nick: “Assess everything you do in terms of value and risk. If you can do that, you’ll go far in life”.
Nick has inspired many and his colleagues wish him a joyous retirement.
