At the end of October, Provincial Treasury bid farewell to Cheryl Downing who has worked in the office of the HOD for 20 years under the then HOD, Dr JC Stegmann and the last four years for Mr Reddy in Provincial Government Accounting.

Cheryl who was known for her strictness when it comes to meeting Dr Stegmann managed the HOD office with an iron fist – everyone was allowed to see the HOD, but make sure to have an appointment.

All the senior managers who attended Cheryl’s farewell agreed that she was a true Personal Assistant and the gatekeeper for the senior managers who she provided a service to. Her excellent communication and delegation skills was also praised – it showed her years of experience.

During the last four years of her career, Cheryl worked as the Personal Assistant for the Director of Provincial Government Accounting, Mr Reddy. Mr Reddy mentioned that he will miss Ms Downing, a perfect Personal Assistant with unmatched experience. He also joked and said Ms Downing gave some of his Deputy Directors a hard time when it came to meeting deadlines.

Mr Zakariya Hoosain, our HOD, wished Ms Downing well in her retirement and said she did very well and that her legacy will always be cherished by Treasury. Ms Downing thanked everyone who managed to attend her farewell especially her manager, Mr Reddy as she referred to him as a “True gentleman and a wonderful manager.” She also thanked the organisers as well as her fellow Personal Assistants within the department for their support throughout the years.
